Thanks to the cap tally we know that Japanese sailors belong to 大日本第九驅逐隊/9th Destroyer Division (Destroyer Asagumo, Destroyer Shirakumo and Destroyer Usugumo). 9th Destroyer Division was part of 1s Cruiser Destroyer Squadron /5th Fleet/.
