New Manchuria (Xin Manzhou) Journal Award Badge/新满洲賞章

The magazine "New Manchuria" was founded in January 1939 and ended in April 1945, publishing a total of 74 issues. It was the core propaganda platform of the "New Manchuria" ideology. Its literary narrative constructed the opposition between the old and the new and "national harmony" through the serialized novels "New and Old Era" and "Flower of Harmony". "New and Old Era" advocated bidding farewell to the "poor and barbaric" old era and embracing the "happy and civilized" new era of Manchukuo. "Flower of Harmony" created a picture of "happy life" of "Japan and Manchuria as one, national harmony, and peaceful and prosperous life" through the love story of Japanese and Manchurian youth. Column reports such as "Students' Visit" introduced the "promising" life of students studying in Japan and published official reports to promote the "special treatment" that Manchukuo students enjoyed in Japan as equal to Japanese students, thereby creating the impression that "New Manchuria - New Country" improved the national status and provided "new hope" for young people.
